Chiffon Silks

Description

Chiffon is elegant and sheer, with a very slightly rough feel to it. Chiffon is lightweight (Chiffon is French for 'Rag'), but strong. Chiffon is softer and thinner than Georgette, sometimes called 'Crepe Chiffon'. Georgette is made like chiffon, but a two or three ply yarn is used.

General Uses

Chiffon is most often used for loose, full, flowing garments. Popular for dresses, scarves and nightgowns. Hard to cut out and sew because it is so flimsy and slippery. Doesn't show pin holes.

Fabric Care

Some chiffon is made with a special starch that may waterspot if it gets wet. Check a small piece before you attempt to wash chiffon and especially if you decide to wash a chiffon garment. A good dry cleaner can remove the water spots. Click on the fabric care buttons to the left for more information on washing silks.

Colors

100% silk chiffon comes in many colors. We always have black, white, and ivory, and usually other solid colors. Call for colors and quantities on hand.
