Fabric Dyeing Instructions

VERY IMPORTANT: Read the entire procedure before beginning. This is by nature an art, and users are cautioned to experiment with the following procedure to obtain the desired results before dyeing a large expensive piece of fabric.

Warning: Wear eye protection, a mask and use rubber gloves. Any utensils used in the dyeing process (wooden, plastic, etc.) must NOT be later be used for cooking unless they are stainless steel.

Silk Road Manic Method

  1. Fill washer with cool water, 6 cups salt, dye, and 1 cup of soda ash.
  2. Agitate for one cycle to dissolve all ingredients.
  3. Put wet fabric into dye bath (fabric needs to move freely - don't try to overload it).
  4. Agitate it 2 more cycles, then let it finish washing.
  5. Wash again with laundry detergent and then dry it.
  6. Have fun!

Cleanup

Clean buckets, tools and machine with hot soapy water. If you wore gloves, your hands are not blue at this point. Neutralize soda ash solutions with a cup of vinegar, and vinegar with soda ash.
