Cotton Broadcloth

Silk Road carries English Pima Cotton Broadcloth, the highest grade available. It is a superfine, medium weight cotton shirting fabric with a smooth finish and a nice luster. It has a nice drape and holds creases well. Unsurpassed for fitted or semi-fitted dress shirts. Easy to sew, soft and durable.
Care: Machine wash, tumble dry, press with a hot iron.
Colors: Black, white, and off-white. Others available. Excellent for dyeing.

Cotton chenille

Cotton chenille is a thick fabric made from yarns that look like miniature fuzzy caterpillars, think of your Grandma's bedspread. In fact, ‘chenille' is derived from the French word for caterpillar. Chenille is a heavy fabric, and is used for bedspreads, jackets and bathrobes. Thick, and a bit more difficult to sew. Moderately stiff drape, fabric fluffs up in the dryer and does not need to be ironed.
Care: Machine wash, tumble dry. No iron.
Colors: Call for colors and patterns in stock. Dyes easily

Dotted Swiss

Dotted Swiss is a lightweight plain weave cotton with a pattern of hand knotted or clipped dots. Similar to cotton lawn, it has a soft drape, creases easily and is moderately easy to sew. From Switzerland.
Care: Gentle wash, tumble or drip dry.
Colors: White. Dyes easily

Cotton lawn

Cotton lawn is a fabulously fine, sheer cotton fabric with a tight plain weave and a graceful drape. The finish may be soft or crisp. Not as stiff as cotton organdy. Lawn gets its name from Laon, France where it was first manufactured. Used to make baby clothes, lingerie, semi-fitted blouses and dresses. Sews easily, creases well.
Care: Machine wash, and dry.
Colors: White and prints.

Cotton organdy

Cotton organdy is a sheer, lightweight rather stiff fabric, treated with a permanent finish. Some organdy is nearly as stiff as a fine wire screen. Useful for interfacings and curtains. Easy to sew, creases very well.
Care: Machine wash and dry.

Cut out cottons in a light weight. Easy to sew, and get softer when washed.

Cotton seersucker

Cotton seersucker is a great travel fabric. It is recognizable for its lengthwise puckered stripes, made by varying the tension on the loom during weaving. Cotton seersucker was the favorite shirt and suiting fabric of Mark Twain. Easy to sew, used for summer shirts, blouses, and suits.
Care: Machine wash and dry. No iron.
Colors: Stripes and plaids. See below.

Cotton shirting

Cotton shirting is a wide variety of lightweight fabrics including oxford cloth, broadcloth and chambray. Soft or crisp drape, sews easily, holds creases well.
Care: Machine wash and dry.
Colors: Varies. Call or e-mail for colors.

Cotton twill

Cotton twill is a family of fabrics with a twill weave, including denim, gabardine, drill and chino. Distinguished by its diagonal stripes, it has a moderately stiff drape. It is strong and does not tear easily, which makes it an ideal choice for pants, uniforms and work wear. Sews easily (although it is a bit bulky), but won't hold a crease very well.
Note: In September 2000, our cotton twills will include a blend ot lycra for extra stretchability. Care: Machine wash and dry.

Cotton voile

Cotton voile (pronounced 'foil') is a lightweight, plain weave fabric with a delicate drape and a smooth surface. It is a very limp fabric, like a refined, fragile gauze. Voile is French for veil, as it was originally used to make veils. Now used for blouses, baby clothing, lingerie and semi-fitted garments. Sews easily, creases well.
Care: Machine wash and dry.
Colors: White. Dyes easily.

Cotton Gauze and Embroidered Cotton Gauze

Care: Machine wash gently, but it will shrink.
Price: 50" wide, Regular gauze $10.95 per yard. Embroidered Gauze $12.95 per yard.
